The Splendora ISD Education Foundation’s Summer Reading Nights continued on June 18 as families gathered at Greenleaf Elementary for an exciting evening of literacy, learning, and adventure during our second summer reading event.

This night’s destination was Miami, Florida, where students and their families explored the vibrant culture, landmarks, and unique experiences that make the city so special. Through engaging read-alouds, hands-on activities, and family-centered learning experiences, participants discovered everything from the rich traditions of Little Havana to the excitement of space exploration inspired by Florida’s Space Coast.

The evening began with dinner and fellowship, giving families an opportunity to connect before diving into the night’s activities. Throughout the event, students participated in literacy-based stations designed to make reading fun while encouraging curiosity and exploration. As always, every child had the opportunity to select free books to take home and continue their reading journey throughout the summer.

Summer Reading Nights are designed to help students maintain and strengthen literacy skills during the summer months while creating meaningful opportunities for families to learn together. Research shows that continued reading during summer break plays a critical role in preventing learning loss and fostering a lifelong love of reading.

These events would not be possible without the generous support of our grant partners. The Splendora ISD Education Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to Horace Mann Insurance, East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID), Republic Services, and GPD Group for investing in literacy opportunities for Splendora ISD students and families.

We are also grateful to the dedicated volunteers, staff members, and community partners who help make each Summer Reading Night a success.

The adventure continues with our remaining Summer Reading Night destinations:

  • June 25 at Peach Creek Elementary – Wyoming
  • July 9 at Timber Lakes Elementary – New York

We invite all Splendora ISD families to join us as we continue exploring the country one book at a time while building stronger readers and creating lasting family memories.

To help us ensure we have enough meals, books, and supplies for every participant, families are encouraged to pre-register for upcoming Summer Reading Nights. Pre-registration helps us plan for dinner and create the best possible experience for everyone attending. Together, we’re building a brighter future through literacy.
