When a Community Shows Up, Students Win
This past week reminded us that supporting education reaches far beyond the walls of our schools.
It happens when community leaders give us a place to share our story. It happens when organizations create opportunities for students and families. And it happens when someone raises a hand at an auction and says, “I believe in what this student is working toward.”
I had the privilege of speaking at the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber breakfast and sharing the story of the Splendora ISD Education Foundation. It was an opportunity to explain not only what we do, but why it matters.
Splendora may be one community within a much larger and quickly growing region, but our students are part of that regional future. They will become the employees, business owners, educators, healthcare professionals, and community leaders who help shape East Montgomery County. When our neighboring businesses and community partners invest in Splendora students today, they are also investing in the future strength of our entire area.
Later in the week, we had another opportunity to show up for students at the East Montgomery County Fair. The Foundation was proud to help sponsor the Kid Zone and to attend Saturday’s auction, where we added $100 to the project of every Splendora-area student participating.
Watching these young people walk into the auction ring representing months of work, responsibility, and determination was incredibly fulfilling. These projects are about so much more than an animal or an auction total. They teach students how to set a goal, overcome challenges, manage their time, and confidently present something they have worked hard to accomplish.
Our $100 add-ons may have been a small part of their overall projects, but we hope the message behind them was much bigger:
We see your hard work. We are proud of you. And your community believes in you.
That is what “showing up” can look like.
Sometimes it means sponsoring an event. Sometimes it means supporting a student at an auction, attending a luncheon, sharing a social media post, or introducing the Foundation to a business that may want to become involved. Not every act of support looks the same, but every one of them helps strengthen the connection between our schools and the community around them.
The Splendora ISD Education Foundation cannot do this work alone—and thankfully, we do not have to.
Every time a business welcomes a conversation, a community partner shares our mission, or a donor chooses to invest, another door opens for our students and educators. Those relationships help us provide innovative educator grants, student programs, classroom resources, and opportunities that might not otherwise be possible.
This past week reminded me that community support is not simply about writing a check. It is about being present. It is about listening, encouraging, and finding meaningful ways to say, “We are with you.”
And when a community shows up, our students win.
