Turning Pages, Building Futures: The Impact of Summer Reading Nights
Summer break is a time for adventure, family memories, and well-deserved fun. But for many students, it can also mean fewer opportunities to practice important reading skills.
That’s why the Splendora ISD Education Foundation is proud to support Summer Reading Nights—an initiative designed to keep students engaged, excited about learning, and connected to books all summer long.
We kicked off our Summer Reading Night series last week at Piney Woods Elementary, where students and their families gathered for an evening filled with books, activities, dinner, and fun.
A special thank you goes to the Pack Horse Library librarian who joined us for the evening and also provided free books for attendees. Thanks to this partnership, even more students were able to take home books of their own and continue their reading adventures throughout the summer.
These events would not be possible without the generous support of our grant partners. The Splendora ISD Education Foundation was fortunate to receive funding from Horace Mann, East Montgomery County Improvement District, Republic Services, and GPD Group to help make Summer Reading Nights a reality. Their investment is helping ensure that students have access to books, literacy-rich experiences, and opportunities to continue learning throughout the summer months.
Each Summer Reading Night transforms an elementary campus into a destination of discovery. Families gather for a shared meal, enjoy interactive read-alouds, participate in hands-on activities, and, most importantly, leave with books to add to their home libraries.
For many of our students, access to books outside of school is limited. Summer Reading Nights help bridge that gap by putting books directly into children’s hands and creating positive experiences with reading. When families read together, students are more likely to maintain and improve their literacy skills during the summer months.
But these evenings are about more than books.
They create opportunities for families to spend quality time together, connect with educators, and build lasting memories. Whether we’re exploring destinations like Miami, learning about space travel, or discovering new cultures through stories, each event combines literacy with fun and adventure.
As we continue Building a Brighter Future Together, we’re reminded that something as simple as a book can open the door to endless possibilities.
Upcoming Summer Reading Nights
